Bella went cliff diving, but it didn't turn out so well. She broke her back. A decade later, Edward reappears in her life on the same night she loses her best friend and husband to a freak accident. Now a graduate student in Women's Studies, Bella isn't thrilled to see him. But when the Cullens re-enter Bella's life, they bring change, hope, and a new joint project that will require all their expertises.

Special Update:

For personal reasons (a ridiculously full teaching schedule and being recently put in charge of a bi-annual local conference and ongoing project), I am no longer able to reply to reviews and questions. But that said, I wanted to give a BIG THANK YOU to EVERYBODY for the wonderful feedback and kind words that have been sent my way since the completion of this story in August 2009. I do still check my messages about once every 1-2 weeks and read *every* review. Heartbroken over her recent break up with boyfriend and best friend Edward Cullen, Isabella Swan begins her sophomore year at college. Told through flashbacks and present day events. E/B AU & AH

“This is your wedding, Bella, and it shouldn’t be something you have to merely tolerate.  I want you to want this for you, not because you feel that you owe it to me, Alice or anyone else for that matter!”

Edward grows concerned about Bella in the weeks leading up to their wedding day, as he sees how uncomfortable she is with the idea of a big wedding.  He wants Bella as his wife, but not at the risk of her sanity!  He begins to wonder if there is another option?

Bella is struggling with more than just the thoughts of a fancy wedding; the mere idea of marriage is causing her to stress...

"Nothing about my relationship with Edward was conventional, and I found it hard to reconcile our extraordinary bond with something as staid and traditional as marriage.  I had to tell him though... I cleared my throat, and then stared at the ceiling, unable to meet Edward’s gaze as I spoke the words that would undoubtedly break his heart.  “Maybe I do have some misgivings,” I mumbled, so low and so quickly that it would have been unintelligible to anyone not equipped with supernatural hearing skills."

Not a usual ‘Bella meets the Cullens again’ story – concentrates more on Bella’s story and her journey to acceptance.

There’s a sort of Shakespearian delight in the way Bella Swan hates Edward Cullen.
