Reviews For Absolucion

Very nice story (I liked this one better than the first).  I do have one thing that I was expecting to be brought to light but it never was...

When Aro was explaning about deja vu and past lives and how the same "souls" find each other again and again, I immediately thought of Rachel and Rolle and how she was the only woman Rolle had been interested in since Gillian died.  Because of the swiftness of their relationship and the immediate feelings each seemed to have for the other (both of them wishing for something more long-term before the flight had even ended), reading Aro's explanation had me thinking that Rachel was Gillian's reincarnated form with both Rolle's and Rachel/Gillian's "soul" recognizing their mate once again.  Alas, the subject was never brought up again.  I had expected it when they were still in Italy, actually - figuring Edward would make the connection between Aro's explanation to Carlisle and Rolle's thoughts about Rachel with his accompanying guilt.  It seemed like the sort of "EUREKA!" moment that Edward gets sometimes when he pieces bits he's "heard" from various sources together and suddenly sees the whole picture.

Thank you for sharing this story with us.  Breaking Dawn was a great book, but it concluded with so many threads... not "loose" exactly but perhaps a seam that was not tightly sewn and could fray with ease (meaning anyone who spent much time pondering the "what if's" could easily spot those teasing loose ends and wonder what might happen if...).  It certainly left an enormous opening for fanfic (or future sequels should SM ever decide she wants to write more on the Cullens). :)

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your reviews! You brought up some great points that make me wish I could go back and add things.  You'd make a great beta reviewer.  I meant for Rolle's reaction to Rachel be influenced by the young romantic couple on the plane, but it grew into something more.  I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure I wrote a follow-up of Rachel and Rolle.  They are together for about three years when Rolle finally realizes he's being unfair to her and lets her go.  He would never consider changing her or anyone.  It's simply not in him to think that way.  But I really liked your spin of it being Gillian!  Thanks again for reviewing.  It's been so long since I've read my own work, your words invigorated me!

Reviewer: RebeccaJ1973 (Signed) · Date: July 31, 2017 09:13 AM · On: Chapter 19 - He Who Replies to Words of Doubt

I loved this chapter!  While I cannot say I believe in reincarnation, I also cannot exclude the possibility and have even wondered if deja vu was the "double memory stamp" some often claim or if, in fact, it is some echo from a past life.  For myself, I have been told from time to time by family members that I have some very strong similarities to an aunt (my father's sister) who died not long before I was born... not physical similarities (I take strongly after my mother's side) but apparently some personality traits, ways of looking at things, and even my relationship with my spouse are much as it was with her.  In fact, I've always thought I was going to die before the age of 40 - my whole life I have thought this!  My aunt died in her late 30's, though I knew not of it until I was in college and my father told me about her while we driving on a long trip (before that, I only knew he had an older sister who died).  When I began even considering the idea of reincarnation (due to the repeated remarks about similarities between my aunt and me), I began to wonder if perhaps that was why I always expected to die before my 40th birthday (today is my 44th birthday, so, obviously, I not only reached the 4th decade mark but have continued past it).

Anyhow, I just wanted to pass on how much I enjoyed your insight into that topic in this chapter.  I also loved the comparison of Aro to the Library of Alexandria... the loss of which I have often regretted (that, and the activities of the early Christians in destroying "pagan" text - I suppose I have a bit of Aro in me as well...lol).

Finally, I wanted to remark upon a line from this chapter:

"You assume I'm too old to understand, [too] set in my ways to appreciate what you're going through.  Yet you fail to appreciate that perhaps in my age and wisdom I might have a larger base of knowledge to draw from?"

I hope you don't mind if I steal this to use on my teenage daughter??? :D

Reviewer: RebeccaJ1973 (Signed) · Date: July 29, 2017 08:31 PM · On: Chapter 6 With so much want of hope

I've tried to resist making a comment about one particular characteristic pertaining to Marcus while reading both of these stories; however, since it now pertains to Caius as well, I can't seem to hold it back any longer.  I was curious as to why you had been describing Marcus as blonde, but now in this chapter I've come across a line describing Caius as having dark hair* which causes me to suspect that you simply had them switched somehow... is this the case???  It is only a very small inconsistency, but it is driving me nuts (I know, I sound just a touch OCD, right?).  There have been larger ones that bothered me less (like Rolle seemingly having multiple gifts - tracker, mimic, mind reader, and even his gift/curse with memory), although there was one other issue that, now that I think about it, kept bothering me besides the hair color issue...  When you wrote about Rolle's past you said his wife died in a "car" accident.  Rolle then spent a month tracking her killer and was changed by Marcus at that time - which is said to have been 4 days before Didyme's death.  My understanding was that Didyme had long been dead, so the timeline was adding up (nor do I follow, now in this chapter, how Marcus would know that Rolland was a tracker if he "killed him the second time" so soon after changing him).  One other confusion I'm having along the timeline issue involving Rolle is about Edward's meeting of him in Chicago.  It was said much earlier that they met at a Jazz festival in Chicago in the 1950's, I believe, but in this sequel, all the parts about the Romanians were happening in 1960.  I cannot recall the line exactly now, but I thought Rolle's time ashore in Romania was his first time in 8 years to be on land again and that the reason he couldn't remember anything of those years was because he had been torn into pieces by Marcus.  So, if Marcus changed him in 1952 (which would fit with the auto accident timeline even if not the Didyme one) and never came ashore again until 1960, how did Edward meet him in Chicago in the 1950's?  The only explanation I can find is to say that Rolle was still human at the time, but that seems a stretch.

Anyhow, these are just nit-picky details (this sort of thing drives me crazy when I read anything from fan-fic to self-published ebooks to professionally edited & published materials by reknowned authors) and are not meant to be a critique on the story as a whole. ;)

*"Caius snorted at the comment and rose with a sneer.  "What did you find?" he asked with a flip of his head to swing a black sheet of hair out of the way."

You are an excellent writer.  You give enough detail to allow perfect visualization without overdoing it, and you have a way with words that makes your reader feel like you may actually know about these subjects.  Even your grammer, spelling, and punctuation is good enough to let me relax into the story instead of unwillingly playing 'grammer-nazi'.

Thank you.  I love a good read, and 'Rolle' is a delightful character.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your kind words.  It's a real treat to hear that a reader connecte with your story, and even more when the story includes an original character that doesn't sour your enjoyment of that story.  Thank you for reviewing and letting me "read" along with you.

Reviewer: DrewsMommy1008 (Signed) · Date: February 09, 2012 08:32 PM · On: Chapter 23 Epilogue special outtake

I was a bit skeptical when I started reading the first story because of you not including Nessie but I got sucked in really quickly. I would love to hear more about Rolle and Rachel! I only have one question, how do you pronounce Rolle? Thanks!HaOI only

Author's Response:

Thanks!  Yeah, you're not the first to say that about my leaving Nessie out.  I just didn't... "feel" her and thought SM did a major disservice to the love story by incorporating the baby the way she did.  I know when you have kids it changes your life, but I didn't start reading Twilight because I wanted to see what kind of parent Edward and Bella would be.  I really wanted to see how this remarkable love-story could thrive once the 'first love' blush wore off, because that's really where the day-to-day toil takes place.... with day-to-day stresses.

But I'm glad you gave the story a chance and found it enjoyable! As I always say to reviewers, "Thank you for reviewing and letting me enjoy my story with you in a way that lets me reply, personally, to express my gratitude."

(oh, and it's pronounced like Raleigh, NC... or Sir Walter...)

What the hell? :) This story has only 84 REVIEWS!??! I honestly think it's one of the best E/B fics out there. I love that Aro isn't this calculating demon... and I think you personafied each of the Cullens perfectly. Thank you for sharing this story. It was amazing... and I sincerely look forward to any other stories you write. Much love, Shannon

Author's Response:

Yeah, I know. What can I say? It's hard for people to find fiction, unless it's pimped by a popular author, or shows up in a lot of forum threads as a "must read."  But thanks for the review love YOU have given me!  It means a lot.  All my reviewers mean a lot to me.

Reviewer: rowltyde (Signed) · Date: October 28, 2010 07:21 PM · On: Chapter 19 - He Who Replies to Words of Doubt

WHAT AN UTTERLY FANTASTIC CHAPTER!!!! Seriously!!!! How beautifully written.... your story needs to be the next step after Breaking Dawn. I love it!!! I've loved the whole story but refrained from commenting until the end... but wow! I couldn't NOT comment on this chapter.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your exuberantly kind review!!  I'm glad you enjoyed reading, and no, it's perfectly fine to only review at the end.  Frankly, it's a wonderful compliment that you couldn't let yourself stop to write.  I consider that to be very high praise!

Oh, just so you know, there is an "Original Character" contest going on, if you feel like participating.  They are taking nominations now. http://originalcharacterawards.blogspot.com/  I have been trying to get the word out, but there seems to be problems with the messaging system in Twilighted.

Thanks again for reading and reviewing!

God, Ilove happy endings! Even though nothing is perfect, what is in this life , or any other? Bottom line,  you have written one damn fine story , actually two, Antithesis was real good, too. Loved both and hope you write more, soon. Take care, I look forward to your next one.

Author's Response:

Thank you! You've been such a great reviewer. It was a pleasure to read along with you.  I'm currently writing "Hunger Games" fiction, that you can find on my profile at http://www.fanfiction.net/u/327203/gkkstitch

Thanks again for all the insightful reviews!

Made my little heart beat faster to read Rachel's reactiont to Rolle's texting. The trip to see the sunset was pretty successful and I think things are going to work out okay for them. ( Doing little happy dance.)

Author's Response:

Ah, but what if I had left it on that final sentence?  "I'm a vampire."  Would you still have loved me then?

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 05:30 PM · On: Chapter 21 - To Begin Again

Good ending , just like life, not really ended at all. A remarkable solution to the amazing problem that was Rolle. It no doubt will be quite an adventure for all the Cullens, including the newest one. I have to tell you one little thing, when Emmett was telling Rosalie that he would go through all the pain andmore to call Rolle brother, for protecting them all, I got tears in my eyes. Guess I'm just an old softie, couldn't help it, Em 's sentiment was so heartfelt. Looking forward to the epilogue.

Author's Response:

Oh, thank goodness!! I'm glad that scene worked.  After I posted it, it felt like it was tacked on and didn't fit well.  I'm glad you liked it and found it powerful.

If you're interested at all, there's "The Twilight Original Characters Awards" kicking off this Saturday, October 23rd.

http://originalcharacterawards.blogspot.com/

I glad you found this story. It's great when a reader enjoys a story enough  to review as much as you have. It really gives a writer a better sense of what works and what didn't.  Thanks again for all your reviews.

Shall we just say, I'm flabbergasted? Aro is full of surprises, heaven knows he shocked Carlisle by suggesting the bonding. It makes perfect sense if you think about it . I repeat myself, you are one smart girl, to come up with all these neat ideas. I can barely wait to see how this turns out.

Author's Response:

LOL, yes, I spent WAY too much time thinking about WAY too many things that could possibly come up. It's important to me that there are reasons why characters act the way they do, and I spent a lot of energy thinking about everyone's gifts and motivations and personal agendas to pull this off.

Thanks again for the review.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 04:35 PM · On: Chapter 19 - He Who Replies to Words of Doubt

Very deep thoughts you have, grasshopper! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, that is one neat explanation for many questions that have been asked for a very long time. How did you get so smart? This chapter gives us a real look at why Aro has always liked and trusted Carlisle. Despite the disparity in their "ages", their minds are pretty much in sync. Ever onward, I must know more!

Author's Response:

Ah! You got to the chapter in question! Yes, I had a thought a long time ago that when people get really REALLY smart, and really start to question things, their only real outlet is philosophy and trying to guess the meaning of why we're here and what purpose we all have.

I had several very long conversations with a couple folks who study philosophy to iron this out. It was tough! I hope I didn't lose you in there. I know it's a lot more demanding that some fanfiction is, but it seemed important to justify why Carlisle would be friends with Aro.

Thanks for the review!

This is so cool! More and more we learn of Rolle and clearer the picture becomes. Fabulous stuff is going on and we're lucky enough to be right in the middle of it, thanks to you! It's shaping up to seem that more than Rolle's future will be changed, probably the Cullens too, and maybe not too horribly. Just have to wait and read more. Bye until next time.

Author's Response:

Intrigue within intrigue.

You should have seen my outline! There were SOO many things to keep track of to make all this come together!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 03:01 PM · On: Chapter 17 - The Stygian Realm

Well, well, Aro is still surprising after all this time. Amazingly he's a little better than I've ever given him credit for, still a selfish, grasping , power-hungry vampire/man? but nevertheless not quite as bad as I always thought. Something not as awful as everyone feared may yet come to pass.We sure know lots more than we did and that's never a bad thing.

Author's Response:

Yes. Aro.

He's full of surprises. I got to thinking a while back, why would Carlisle stay in Volterrra for 70+ years if they were really evil?  So something occurred to me why an intelligent man might stay... and you'll find out in a few more chapters.

Thanks for reviewing!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 02:25 PM · On: Chapter 16 - These Realms of Silence

Please tell me that Carlisle and Esme are going to make it through this nightmare. I will be so sad if they don't and even worse, if Edward and Bella and Rolle  don't survive. The destruction you describe is absolutely overwhelming. Our boy Rolle packs a hell of a punch.Goy to go, have to find out if everybody is safe.

Author's Response:

Well, since you've already reviewed the next chapter, you already know the answer to your question. I needed to put them in a LOT of danger, so Alice (and by extension, Edward) would be justly upset after her vision.

thanks again for the review

Dear Lord, what has Rolle unleashed ? Man, talk about exciting stuff, I'm sitting here bouncuing in my chair! Conspiracy is swirling everywhere and no one knows what's next and who will come through it in one piece. I can hardly wait  to find out. This story is just the best! Thank you for the kind words about my reviews, it has been a lot of fun trying to keep up with you. It's challenging, even if I get lost along the way, it's good to test yourself  like that. I must leave you for a while, my husband is taking me out to eat, and you know, any meal you don't have to cook is a treat! See you later.

Author's Response:

Oh yay!! You're the first person I've had bouncing in the seat!  SQUEE! I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am that the story has drawn you in.  I have so few reviews both here and on fanfiction.net that sometimes it feels only 8 or 9 people are reading it.

Both Antithesis and Absolucion were nominated for the Twilight Indie Writer's awards, but only Antithesis made it to the final round of voting. Even then, my readership did not go up the way it did for the M-rated stories.  Some stories went from 16 review to 600.  Mine went from 12 to 38.  Sigh....

So, yes, your reviews and the few other folks who loyally reviewed each chapter are very special to me. Thank you!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 11:49 AM · On: Chapter 14 - To Try My Strength

It begins to look as if Rolle's plan may come to fruition. Aro is fascinated with his possibilities, the least of which is his tracking skills. Rolle is a totally unknown quantity concerning his abilities and his motivations. Aro better be careful and Caius best watch his back.

Author's Response:

This is true.  Aro is willing to overlook a lot of Rolle's faults for the potential he may have inside!  Thanks for the reveiw.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 21, 2010 11:17 AM · On: Chapter 13 - I Come Not to Spy

This may turn out to be a case of grabbing a tiger by the tail. It would serve the Volturi right to not be able to let go that tail. Such poetic justice tickles the hell out of me. Aro has a big surprise in store from all indications, not to mention Caius and Marcus. Had to chuckle at Jane's shock over Rolle's reaction to her "gift". Who would laugh at that much pain except our poor messed up Rolle?

Author's Response:

You nailed it exactly. He's in so much emotional pain, that feeling real physical pain was actually a relief to him!

You're a fantastic reviewer!!!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 20, 2010 11:40 PM · On: Chapter 12 - Love Has Led Me Here

Hearing Rolle's thoughts is heartbreaking. I want to wrap him up in a big hug, and keep him from harm. Silly, I know, considering what he is, but I can't help it. Real glad to not be on that plane, you can cut the fear with a knife. The only counter to that is the love the two couples have for each other. I'm hoping fiercely that will be enough of an edge.

Author's Response:

I had to stop for a moment and remember where you are in the story! OMGoodness, you have some exciting things starting up! Once Rolle arrives in Volterra, the rollercoaster REALLY begins! Thanks for the review!!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 20, 2010 11:09 PM · On: Chapter 11 Uneasy Lies the head

Alice is beside herself when she can't see how to protect her family. The danger facing them is probably the worst they've ever come up against and without a solid plan they are flying blind. This is the most terrible time for Carlisle to be in the depths of despair, the family needs his calm logic more than ever. What are they going to do without his usual guiding hand? Boy, are we in trouble now!

Author's Response:

I was so intrigued with the idea of a mentally unstable vampire that Rolle's gift (or rather his curse) would easily block Alice from being able to see how he'd react in the totally chaotic environment of Volterra.  HE doesn't know how he'll react.  Heck, at this point, he doesn't even understand what's going on in his mind, let alone being able to control the bizzare impulses he's acting under.

Thanks again for being such a great reviewer!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 20, 2010 10:45 PM · On: Chapter 10 For Those Who Watch, Beware

Stefan and Vladimir certainly dropped a bombshell on the Cullens, now they will have to digest this information and decide how to help Rolle and defend themselves. You can kind of see why things have been going like they have, with some assistance from the Romanians, of course. They sure are afraid of what Rolle  is capable of doing. It kind of reminds me of rubbing the lamp and having no control of the genie and hoping to hell you can get him back in the lamp. One thing I'm worried about is Rachel's role in all this. There is something so good and so healing between her and Rolle. I would hate to see that destroyed. Que sera, que sera, I guess. Talk to you later.

Author's Response:

Hi again, and thanks for the review!  Yes, the Romanians really got a "Monkey's Paw" wish in Rolle.  He's everything they want, but cannot control.  Everyone keeps forgetting how deep Rolle's guilt goes!!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 20, 2010 09:55 PM · On: Chapter 9 Caveat Emptor

This chapter is a real interesting mixture, sensual in Halifax and Paris, chilling in Volterra. The relationship between Aro and Marcus is equal parts intense dislike and indifference, sprinkled with a big dose of resentment. Over all is the fake sincerity of Aro, the little hypocrite. If he can't run the show, he'll make damn sure no one else does. Bella and Edward, everything to and for each other, what else needs to be said? I'm pretty sure they are  on their way to the Romanians. Hope they discover something to help Rolle. Speaking of whom, I could almost feel his resignation when his phone rang. He knew what was coming, and what he had to do. Poor baby, just as Rachelwas soothing and calming him a little.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! Yes, there's much drama afoot in Europe, isn't there!  hee hee

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 18, 2010 03:04 PM · On: Chapter 8 Questions from Answers

From Halifax to Bucharest to Paris, can Volterra be far behind? You are pulling all the threads together, kind of like a spider web, and hell yes, I'm tangled up in it. Ordinarily, that would have me creeped out, but this is just plain fascinating. On to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

omg, you should have seen my plot outline. My hubs said I write like Tom Clancy: lots of seemingly disconnected stories all slowly coming together and ending in a rollercoaster ride to the end.  I posted the story as a serial, but really that does it a huge discredit. The plot is too complex to read only one chapter at a time. It really needs to be read from beginning to end to get the full impact.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: October 18, 2010 02:23 PM · On: Chapter 7 When the faithful question

Promises, promises. Sure we want to know what Alice saw, even though it sounds like bad stuff is coming. The guys hunting together was a good thing, like Edward and Carlisle sharing the horror of Montreal. That had to be cathartic, for Carlisle to get that off his chest. Meanwhile, back in Paris, the redemption of Rolle continues; thank you for sharing that, it's beautiful.

Author's Response:

Damn! I wish I would have thought to call one of the chapters that!  "the Redemption of Rolle"  Too good!!

I've always heard Paris is the city of lovers and I guess Rachel and Rolle  are proof of that. Whooee! So, the plot thickens. The machinations of Aro and Caius never cease to amaze me. The bastards can't seem to mind their own business for two minutes without causing  grief and trouble for somebody, mainly the Cullens. I'm hoping there is Karma, even for vampires.
