That was such a good chapter.  He is making so much progress.  I love how the contact with Bella is not only comfort; but also has a level of intimacy, like when he was stroking her face, and the way he snuggled up to her while she was sleeping,  It was so endearing the way he was sorry for flinching at her kiss.  It shows that he does care about upsetting her, and that he on a conscious level knows that he can trust her, but that his reactions are an involuntary instinct.  It's so promising, I love to see them connecting while he is more alert.  So excited for the next update!

Author's Response:

He is, he's come so far since the basement :)

Thanks so much for the review!

I loved the book-sniffing, the spooning, all of it.  Fantastic chapter.  Edward's making such improvement!

Author's Response:

Yes, he's making huge improvement!

Thanks for reviewing :D

Well I've read it and now i am reviewing

I am going to be honest and say i didn't like the middle chapters too much even though it was very endearing.

But then suddenly for the last 3/4 chapters you suddenly took the story in a different direction and I loved it. I loved the changing dynamic between Edward and Bella.

The first  5ish chapters i also though were amazing, i mean we knew it was Edward but it was still really interesting and  caught my attention.

So update soon, and this story is really interesting, and even though i was a bit critical at the beginning of the review I'm sure if i were to read those chapters properly rather than in out as i had been. I would have liked them more.

So i can't wait for the 15th chapter.

Beth

Author's Response:

Thank you for reviewing! The early chapters were slow but necessary, and I'm glad you stuck through it.

It's okay to not like the middle ones, glad these ones are better for you :)

I love that he's gradually talking more and more! Great chapter. <33

Haha I'm glad that he's healed to the point that he will wear clothes of his own volition :)

And I love how this is all developing!  I actually squealed when I got the email telling me that you'd updated this!!! :D

Miss Michelle  Thank you for taking your time with this story.  I can't imagine the challenge you face trying to allow Edward the time needed while not dragging things out to the point of losing readers due to our impatience.  It's well written and I'm definitely all in and eager for your next chapter!  This is all just so heartbreaking and tender and wonderful.  I feel so imersed in this to the point that I now feel like I have my own vampire I NEED to love and care for.  I really do love how you have Bella refering to Edward as "my vampire". That simple expression means so much.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reviewing hon! I'm glad I haven't lost you yet!

Yay more e/b time... I absolutely love the pacing on this story... Wondering when he will start to trust the cullens more... Can't wait 4 the next update...

Author's Response:

I'm glad you like the pacing :) This chapter specifically I seem to be picking up a lot of flack for it, so it's nice that you still enjoy it!

Thanks for reviewing!

THIS IS FANTASTIC!  I WAS CHECKING TO SEE THE MOST RECENT UPDATED STORIES AND I SAW THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS ONE AND I READ ALL 14 CHAPTERS!  YOU'RE A GREAT WRITER AND THIS IS SO FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU NEXT CHAPTER.  I LOVE THE RELATIONSHIP THAT BELLA HAS WITH JASPER AND EMMETT.  WILL WE SEE THEM INTERACT MORE WITH EDWARD?

Author's Response:

Aww, thank you so much :) I'm glad you gave it a shot!

Yes, we'll see more interaction between the cullens/edward, no worries :)

I do miss shirtless-ward!! :( So cute in the end when he was the first one to say Goodnight. This story is seriously epic. :D

Author's Response:

I'll miss him too.. but sweat pants and a t-shirt isn't a bad image, either ;)

aww..i kinda do miss shirtlessward, but i'm happy that he's slowly healing.

i'm wondering if when edward said "you're different from the others", if he meant that he couldn't read her mind??

anyways, i loved this chapter as usual :)   Keep up the fantastic work!!!

Author's Response:

Good question :) Coulda meant a number of things, eh? x)

Agghh I was soooo excited to see an update!! Suddenly, not so tired anymore, even though it's 3:30 in the morning! Seriously though, I don't anticipate or enjoy any other fic as much as I do this one. I'm completely in love with the characters (ok, I was before, but I'm in love with the way you present them- so many other authors get it so wrong), I get all antsy when there isn't a new update for a while, and I love your writing style. I can't wait for more, the suspense of all the little subplots is killing me!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you're enjoying this so much! I'm sorry about week-long waits, but it's a pretty hard schedule to even maintain that often!

Thanks so much for reviewing!

Reviewer: be_my_escape (Signed) · Date: April 28, 2009 10:34 PM · On: The Weekend

I'm glad he's got clothes now and he's recovering. Shirtless-ward is still welcome to come back though :) I'm also glad he isn't completely freaking out about being in the same room as Alice and Emmett.

Can't wait to read more. Please update soon.

Reviewer: kezcullen (Signed) · Date: April 28, 2009 10:25 PM · On: The Weekend

hey who doesn't miss shirtlessward!!!

i am enjoying this greatly but really would like to have a bit of a breaskthrough soon- the slow pacing is relaxing, and the tension is finely wrought, but i am now in the mood for some further emotional development and some full-on action!!

perhaps edward will respond to bella's sleep talking??

perhaps they will go out for a walk and edward can save her from someone/thing and cause a breakthrough for him??

i bow to your creative control!!

Author's Response:

Sorry 'bout the pacing hon, I feel like all of these small victories are breakthroughs, technically it should take way longer than this.

Thanks for reviewing!

Yeah!! a long chapter *fist pump*

I love reading all the fluffy moments between Edward and Bella. Its so sweet how hes always seeking her touch. I can't wait to find out what happened to him. Please update soon^-^

Author's Response:

Yes, so many requests for a long chapter, finally got one in there.

Thanks for reviewing!

Whew... another great chapter - with lots of good developments! I can understand why Edward's afraid of the laptop, I'm sure the lab has plenty of them. *cringes*

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reviewing!

And.. yeah, that, or that it's just modern technology freaking him out -- although I'm sure he's seen similar things whereever he came from :)

Reviewer: mbluvsdarkedward (Signed) · Date: April 28, 2009 09:25 PM · On: The Weekend

ooooo am i right that he was trying to tell her that he cant hear her mind when he told she is different to the others??  i love all the hints that are being thrown in!

hope he starts to interact with the family a bit soon

Author's Response:

We'll see ;)

Thanks for reviewing!

Oh my goodness!  Great chapter.  Seriously one of my favorites... although I think that I say that after every chapter!  The end "Goodnight... Bella" gave me little pangs of happiness!  Seriously--- amazing stuff you're writing.

Gah.  I freaking love this story.  It will be very interesting to find out what has happened to him over hte past 90 years... I think it will break my heart and make me love Edward even more.

Thank you so much for writing!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reviewing hon!

"Goodnight, Bella..." Wow....that is powdered-sugar sweet. :)  What a reward for her hard work!!  And Edward...hostage for 90 years??? Carlisle must find and destroy this evil, evil lab!!!   Hmm, wonder if this Edward will be full of angst....how could he not be?

Glad to see Emmett and Alice popping in for a visit - he needs to realize the rest of the family won't harm him either.

Thank you for the chapter...now you know we all want another, right?? ;)

(BTW, no need to acknowledge all of my reviews - I tend to be a review whore. I like to encourage!)

LA :)

Author's Response:

Yeah, kinda fluffy there ;)

Thanks for reviewing!

This isn't going to be up to my normal standard for reviews since I'm trying to get this out before my internet goes back down the crapper.

I am absolutely in love with Edward right now.  He's so scared and anxious and alone and just wanting to be shown some love and be cared for.  Cue "awe..."

Here are some of the highlights from the chapter.  Okay, a lot of highlights, but still, I had to try to get something that resembles a review in.

"The corners of his lips turned into a very small smile, and the sadness that usually accompanied his expression was lost."  This is such a sweet moment because it's him actually interacting with the outside world.  I love how he's relishing the new smells and textures and sights the books bring him.  It also reminded me that Edward was very well read and I hope he gets the chance to catch up soon.

"Bella and I stand side by side, our arms wrapped tightly around one another. Her eyes are red, her skin pale."  Yay!  Part of the mystery is solved.  I was hoping this would be what you were going for, but I didn't want to put too much stock in it.  At least we see her with Alice, which means she won't leave the Cullens, and most likely if she's there, and smiling, then that means Edward is lurking not too far away. :-)

“You don’t have any reason to be sorry,”  This made my heart cry.  He was so pathetic and obviously feared getting punished.  Oh, Edward!  I hope you will soon be able to recognize that you are safe and will be taken care of.  Bella only wants your happiness to overshadow all your pain.

“You’re not… like them,”  Winner of the understatement of the century award.  And also let's us know Edward probably doesn't know what he is.  I wonder what he'll do once he does figure it all out.  And does this mean he doesn't understand why he's not "hungry" or why he doesn't get the whole 'throat feeling like it's on fire plus blood equals relief' feeding deal.  Huh, we'll have to watch how this unfolds.

"He was amazingly strong. Even in my panic I noticed that no one should have the kind of strength this man had.  But there was someone who had it, and it was the 5 foot nothing girl I met in biology"  Yes!  We finally learn how Bella figured it all out AND it was James at Port Angeles.  That equals all sorts of win in getting both things to match up.  Good job.  I especially like how Bella actually freaked out.  Thank you for giving her a somewhat normal reaction.  Well, as normal as Bella will ever have.

'He finally met my eyes, his face a mixture of shock and anxiety. “Please,” he whispered, more of a gasp than anything else. I couldn’t even keep a tight grip on his hand he was shaking so hard. “Don’t hurt…” he pleaded, but my fingers contacting his neck interrupted him. He flinched hard at my touch, but calmed quickly. He closed his eyes and his muscles relaxed a bit, but he was still trembling fiercely. “…me.”' - This paragraph here was probably the one that stood out the most in my mind.  This shows to what extent he is broken.  This poor man has no reason to expect any sort of kindness from anyone.  He's probably waiting to either wake up and realize all this kindness was just a dream making the cage and torture even worse, or he's waiting for them to start treating him that way too.  It's all he knows.  Pain and suffering is it, he probably doesn't even know what to do with positive emotions.  Cue my heart breaking now.

Nothing to quote here, but the games between Jasper and Bella - I am incredibly happy that you gave them the chance not only to interact, but to actually play.  Thank you so very much.  You actually wrote Jasper's talent so that he was more than the vampire equivalent of klonopin/prozac.

"We only got through eleven pages, having to pause after every one for him to touch it, to smell it, to inspect it," Again, the book is leading him to a whole new world.

"“So he’s… been in captivity… for 90 years?” I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Suddenly it seemed like his reaction to the laptop was rational."  *tear*

"“I don’t… remember them,” he whispered as I made my way over to him and sat down. “I can’t remember anything about them.”" Oh god!  Poor Edward.  I can't imagine how tore up I would be at not being able to remember my parents, but then to realize I would never be able to find them, ever, and that I probably will never be able to remember them... How much more can/has been taken from him?

I think that covers most of it, if I've missed something, I'll post something on the forums.  Thank you for the awesome update.  As always, looking forward to future ones, but willing to wait patiently for them.

Author's Response:

Please, this review was wonderful!

I tried to be blatantly obvious about the Alice mystery, but alas, my obvious is obviously more subtle than i though :P

Edward's had a really crappy past, it's true.. but he's getting better! The fact that he DID something that he thought MIGHT earn him some sort of punishment is huge, IMO. i'm glad you like the game/jasper's characterization. I LOVE writing jasper and take whatever opportunities I can to write him in :)

This.. review response sucks. It's late, but I wanted to let you know that I read/adore/love/love/love your reviews bb! See you on the threads :)
