Despite the danger that is coming, this was a great chapter! I think Edward is getting the message that Bella loves him , without reservation. If he doesn't know now, he is sillier than I thought !

Author's Response:

He's getting there, but several decades of believing himself to be a monster take a while to overcome.  But he is getting there.

Too bad Bella fainted before Jasper could tell her Edward's gift would help him escape a sneak  attack. There are still a couple things she needs to know. At least her family is still safe, for the moment.

Author's Response:

Her family is safe--from Victoria--for the moment.

Typical Edward in self-loathing mode!~ Instead of listening to reason and the truth, he hits the panic button, once more, and runs! Bella needs to get a big stick and bop him with it! If not for his abilities, they would both be dead, and instead of concentrating on that, he freaks!Maybe Emmett needs to slap him, hard!

Author's Response:

I've had a lot of reviewers blame Edward for running away, but sometimes I think we expect too much of him.  I don't think he's melodramatic or anything like that.  Yes, he is broody, but I think he's got good reason.  I really wanted to get across why (why, I think anyway) he is the way he is.  He truly does consider himself a monster.  Of all the vampires in the Cullen clan and the Denalis, he's the only one to be taught right from wrong, so to speak, from day one and purposely chose to hunt humans anyway.  Others did feed from humans for a lot longer than he did, but they didn't have anyone like Carlisle to guide them after their change, and others slipped up, like Emmett with his singers, but it wasn't a deliberate choice they made.  Edward's choice was deliberate, and I think he carries a tremendous amount of guilt over it that has never really been dealt with.

Okay, this is pathetic.  Of course I know how it ends: we all do.  But I'm bawling my eyes out here!!!

Author's Response:

I think it means I wrote something that made you feel enough to make you cry, which I take as a huge complement.

(Of course, you're talking to someone who can bawl at Halmark card commercials, so I really may not be the best judge.)

I had no idea you were in the path of Superstorm Sandy, sure hope you weren't affected too badly by that awful mess! I never was so grateful to be living two hundred miles, as the crows flies, from Forks, Washington. As a matter of fact, we drove through there just two months ago! But, I digress! (that's what you get with a gabby old womanwho's a fan!) I wish Bella had finally told Edward all shw knew, but the make out session was pretty good without that added element!

Author's Response:

We got very lucky with Frankenstorm.  The only damage I saw around town was a missing traffic light a block from my daughter's high school.  I'm in a valley, and I think that somewhat protected us.  My brother is only an hour south, but it's flat, and he was without electricity for almost a week.  My cousins in New Jersey were worse still.  One morning, my cousin was 15th in line to buy gas, and the place wasn't even open yet, and that was about a week after the storm.

I only wish that Bella had confessed why she was so freaked out in the theater, because she nearly caused Edward to have a panic attack! Other than that, it was all good! The little dance she and Tanya have going is pretty funny, too!

Author's Response:

Oh, that talk will come.  Don't you worry about that!  The scene in the theater was something that I had pictured in my head even before I started writing.  I got a kick out of both of them keeping a secret from the other.  "She can't know what I am, who I am."  "He can't know I know who he is, what he is."  Like you said, the little dance they're dancing between all of them.  And all the while, Alice not seeing a thing because Bella hasn't made any decisions that would impact the Cullens.  Bella's basically just joined that cast without two of the staring members ever suspecting.  Like in 1918 with Elizabeth, it isn't just anyone who can give a command to a vampire (Save my son!), it isn't just anyone who can keep a secret from both a mind reader and a psycic.

I have so enjoyed Bella's inner musings, some of them hilarious, all through this story. This chapter, however, has to be the best example of that habit. She went through all the progressive steps of discovery, about Edward  and the rest of the Cullens, her dad's girlfriend included. She experienced a lot of emotions, fears, etc., and comes to the conclusion that no matter what he is, Edward is the love of her life. I love this girl!!!

Author's Response:

I wanted to give both Edward's and Bella's thoughts attention.  Sometimes, what's really going through a person's head might not be what you would expect, especially since different readers might see a particular scenario differently.  But it was important they be *internal* musings in this chapter.  I really wanted her to feel every possible emotion from joy to anger, but she couldn't talk to herself--what I like to call, "thinking outloud," because at some point, our favorite vampire would've turned up in the trees.  So, he's out there watching over her, and she's in there thinking about/freaking out about him, and neither one knows it.  He knows she's awake, yes, but nothing else.

I knew it, I knew it! It had to happen that way, too, just perfect. Can't wait to see what she does next!

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you liked it!  That was one scene I had in my head exactly as it turned out all along.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 26, 2012 02:08 AM · On: Chapter 32

I can't believe how close they are to the big reveal! Bella has just got to realize any time now! It's so cute how happy Carlisle, Esme and Tanya are about Bella being here with Edward!

Author's Response:

I love my Tanya.  I love how finding her mate made her feelings for Edward change from geniune affection with superficial sexual attraction to something very maternal.  Like she said, thank God he turned her down!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 26, 2012 01:29 AM · On: Chapter 31

Thank heavens Bella is okay. That was scary for a while. I'm anxious to see how her visit to Casa Cullen will go.

Author's Response:

Is it weird to say I'm glad i t was scary?  I meant it to be, at least a little bit.

Danger magnet Bella strikes again! This time sounds pretty serious, though. Jake scared her and made her run and increased the chance of something like this happening. I was tickled to hear Edward tell him the precise wording of the treaty. That will give the Quileutes some thing to chew on, no pun intended.

Author's Response:

When I read the summary of "The U.P. Trial," the book Edward was reading as a human while sitting with his mother, about a girl who was a magnet for danger, I couldn't help but think of the parallel with Bella.  But the poor girl in that book makes Bella look like a lucky charm.

I loved that bit about the treaty.  I was actually giggling while I was typing it.

Bella is a very smart girl, she's going to figure this all out here any time, now! I shivered when you said all hell was going to break loose, soon. Please, nothing too awful, okay? They neither one have had a chance to really be happy, yet!

Author's Response:

Define awful.

Sounds like a truce may be in effect between Billy and Charlie. Hope that doesn't get Jacob's hope  up too much. The conversation between Micheal Masen  and Bella was good for her soul, and probably his too! I sure wish Edward would get on the ball and tell her the truth!

Author's Response:

A truce, yes, but a very tentative and fragile one.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 11:15 PM · On: Chapter 27

Good to see Bella has settled down a bit, and is more at ease with Edward. of course, Edwahears the wolves outside, or something close.  I thought Charlie told Billy not to bother sending them to help with the desk? It's kind of neat that Bella's dad knows what Tanya is, and is okay with it, pretty much.

Author's Response:

I think it's very important that Bella be given a chance to have time to mourn Edward Masen, because Edward Masen truly did die.  Edward Cullen is a different person, he's lived through to much, been through and seen too much to still be the same person he was as a human.  Her heart and soul recognize him, but her mind doesn't and needs time to be ready to love him for what he is now.

As for the wolves showing up in Forks, Edward isn't the only teenage boy who doesn't listen.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 10:38 PM · On: Chapter 26

Let me guess, Bella saw Edward, felt something for him and now feels guilty?  That's all I can think of! Wow, a small shocker here, when Charlie tells Billy he knows what the Cullens are!

Author's Response:

And BINGO was his name-oh!

Oh, yeah.  That was a shocker, alright!  Did you notice how his eyes rose to the ceiling, looking toward the upstairs--where Bella was?

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 10:03 PM · On: Chapter 25

Maybe now Edward will listen to his psychic sister!

Author's Response:

Never bet against Alice!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 09:30 PM · On: Chapter 24

Do the words stubborn, and blockhead, sound familiar? Edward just will not learn to listen to anyone! Makes me want to pick up a 2x4 and gently get his attention! I could just scream at the unintentional arrogance!

Author's Response:

I do believe I've heard the words "blockead" and "stubborn" in reviews before.  Edward is 17.  I think that's something we all tend to forget.  Yes, he's over 90 or over 100, depeneding on how you look at it, but he is also only 17.  Do any 17-year-olds listen to anyone?  That's an aspect of him that I really wanted to show.  We expect him to be perfect, but in reality, he's a 17-year-old in love for the first time.

Try to get Edward's attention with a 2 X 4, and all you'll get is a whole hell of a lot of toothpicks.  You'd need a special Cullen edition baseball bat.  (Or a flame thrower, just sayin....)

So close, and yet, so far! Again, I have to ask, why won't Carlisle tell Edward the truth?

Author's Response:

So close and yet so far is a very good way to put it!

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 08:22 PM · On: Chapter 22

This chapter leaves me with questions! What did Jacob tell Bella, which of the legends ?  Why won't Carlisle tell Edward what he has remembered? Biggest question of all, however, why the hell is is Edward running to Lake Quinault? Is Bella in danger?

Author's Response:

He told her the same one he told her in canon.  Although I wrote my wolf pack differently from canon--there are always wolves guarding the tribe.  I didn't think a defense that kicked in only after the threat has decimated half the tribe was a very good defense, so I made phasing a constant thing.  There are always a few wolves.  Because of that, he told her the truth about the wolves, but in the form of a legend.

Carlisle will tell Edward what he suspects/knows, but that's not something you can just drop on someone.  Plus, not having any proof, it is a hard thing to accept, even for himself.  What if he's wrong?  Like he says to Esme, Edward is already distraught, how much would having his hopes raised only the be crushed hurt him?

Oh, as for why Edward took off like a bat (no pun intended!) out of hell....  Well, I'm sure you've already read the reason for that!

I have a hunch that Charlie reaching for the drawer holding Edward's letters, was what snapped Bella out of her misery for a while. We all know why Edward doesn't want to leave Phoenix, too bad he can't remember why! N ext question, what is to be done with Bella? Is now the time to bring her back to Forks, I hope?

Author's Response:

That was exactly it, as Bella will relate at one point.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 06:55 PM · On: Chapter 20

Poor Edward, to come through his change with hardly any memories of his extended family, and especially of his Bella! Wonder what it's going to take to make him remember? He won't hear her thoughts, so that's out. He would have no way to see the desk, so there goes that! Rats!  Bella never saw his picture so that's no good either. Just the thought of them putting her in a facility makes me sad.  No one knows she's mourning him! You don't need to be locked up for that, for heaven's sake!

Author's Response:

He has no memories whatsoever--aside from Carlisle's limited interaction with his parents and friends--it's all gone.  So, now.... He doesn't remember her, and she won't recognize him....

You don't need to be hospitalized for normal grief, no.  But what Bella's going through is nothing like normal grief.  I wouldn't normally give something away that hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure you've already read it by now, but like Jasper will comment, what he feels from Bella is what he would feel himself if anything happened to Alice.  They just don't understand how literal that observation was.

Reviewer: k1942 (Signed) · Date: November 25, 2012 06:13 PM · On: Chapter 19

The damn flu killing Edward, as far as she knows, is almost killing Bella too! I cried when she called the Masens and they were so happy to hear from her. When Micheal told her how much Edward loved her and she told them she loved him, it broke my heart to think of it! Can you tell I really get wrapped up in this story? So, the worst moment of her life has happened, will you now get her to Forks, so she can find him again, please?

Author's Response:

Oh, she'll go to Forks, but remember, she doesn't know what he looks like....
