I don't usually go for stories with fewer chapters, as some authors take the mickey with updates but there was something about this that drew me in and I haven't been disappointed!

Thank-you for taking a chance with me! I, too, hate to wait around for stories, only to forget what I had read previously, because the update took too long. Consequently, I didn't start posting this until I had written quite a bit of it. I am now working on Chap 21, so I won't be keeping you waiting very long between. In fact, the only reason I am updating as slowly as I am, is in case I need to tweak some of the later chapters before I finish.

I hope you continue to enjoy it - I'm sure some of my reviewers want to lynch me at the moment!!! Thanks too for reviewing; much appreciated.

Edward and Bella's conversation was very stiff.  Awkward at best in places.  His advice of reading to Carlie and talking to her was great.  It gave Bella something to do.  Esme said Carlie would never be alone again.  When Bella needed to rest Esme would be there. Carlisle mentioned he wouldn't let Bella leave the family ever again.  I know Edward was dying to ask who the father was.  His talking about "boyfriend" was trying to fish out information regarding the father.  He disputed Bella's description of not being pretty, but that she was beautiful which is what he said before they made love.  "Beautiful Bella."  I think Edward felt like he waited too long to make his move towards Bella.  She already has a 4 year daughter and he hasn't since her in 5 years.  He doesn't know Carlie is his.  I wonder if Esme has figured out where Carlie's name has come from.  At least Bella was able to get a hold of Charlie about Carlie.  He arrived with Jacob.  Both holding Bella tight and promising to be there for her.  Edward sunk out while Bella was crying in her dad's arms.  The fact that Alice has been in touch with Bella all this time and she didn't mention it to anyone, I feel for Alice she will be getting a lot of grief for not sharing information.  I still think Edward will be very upset about not knowing he has a daughter.  When Bella thanked him for saving Carlie.  His response was that's what I do.  My favorite part of their conversation was when Edward said, “You must be terrified. Having something like this happen to your child...I can’t imagine what that would feel like. It’s bad enough watching someone you love going through it.”  Admitting his love for her watching her go through the pain.  Also he had been asleep too long, meaning he should have expressed his feelings for Bella a lot earlier.  Also standing there with his arms crossed and hands fisted, probably wondering who the father is and why isn't he there with Bella, and jealous of the father of Carlie because he was intimate with Bella.  Of course we all know that Carlie's father has been there the whole time, saved her life, still checking on her vitals, checking on her chart, and he's jealous of himself.  Kinda funny in a way.  Sad in another for him.

You definately picked up on the nuances in the chapter. His balled fists were a nod to Twilight, when he was feeling the desire to touch her during the Science video. I wonder what Jake's arrival looked like to Edward? I love the fact that you say he is jealous of himself! That's so cool!

ooh, either he's figured it out, or he thinks he has the hots for bella. He's gonna FLIP when she finally fesses up - or when Carlie starts to get better and acts just like him! or if alice spills...

now I bet poor daddyward thinks she's with jake! gah!

There is only one person who is doing some deep thinking about Carlie - and it isn't Edward. I'm sure you can figure out who easily enough. And yes, Jake is seen a rival, albeit unintentionally this time!

As for Bella and Edward, this is probably the first time they have ever sat alone and just talked. All Bella has had for five years is imaginary Edward.
